Terms of service

By using ExifSweep at https://exifsweep.com, the API at /api/v1/clean, or any related service ("Service"), you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

These Terms form a contract between you and the operator of ExifSweep. You can review the always-current version at this URL.

ExifSweep is a privacy-first metadata viewer + editor for images, video, PDFs, and archives. The default processing path runs entirely in your browser; we never receive your files unless you've explicitly opted into the server-side fallback (Pro / Plus tier only, for files exceeding browser memory).

We offer three tiers:

• · Free — 3 cleanups / day, browser-side only, no card required, no account needed.
• · Pro (€1.99 / month or €21.89 / year) — 30 cleanups / day, larger file caps, batch up to 3, custom metadata writer, ZIP bulk download.
• · Plus (€4.99 / month or €49.90 / year) — unlimited cleanups, larger file caps, batch up to 10, API access (50k requests / 30-day window), priority server-side queue.

You may use the free tier anonymously. Paid tiers require an account via Supabase Auth (email + password, or Google/Apple OAuth).

You agree NOT to:

• · Use the Service for illegal content (CSAM, terrorism material, copyright-infringing redistribution, etc.). Browser-side processing means we have no visibility into your files — this is a contractual restriction, not a technical one.
• · Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code beyond what's publicly visible in the browser.
• · Probe, scan, or test the security of the Service except via our published responsible-disclosure process (email security@exifsweep.com).
• · Use the Service to facilitate criminal evidence-tampering. (Note: we will not assist law enforcement with file content because we don't have it. We will respond to valid legal process for account and billing metadata.)
• · Abuse the free tier — automated quota-bypass attempts, fingerprint spoofing at scale, or repeated disposable-email sign-ups will result in suspension.
• · Resell, white-label, or distribute the Service as your own without written permission.
• · Send malicious content to the API in attempts to exploit the server-side processor.

All payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.

• · Billing cycle: monthly (charged each calendar month) or annual (charged once per year).
• · Cancellation: cancel anytime from the customer portal in settings. You keep access until the end of the current billing period.
• · Refunds: cancel within 14 days of purchase for a full refund. Email billing@exifsweep.com — no questions.
• · Price changes: 30 days' notice via email before any price increase. Your current rate is locked in until you cancel or your subscription renews.
• · Failed payments: we retry 3 times over 7 days. After that the account drops to free tier.

The Service, its codebase, branding, documentation, and design are owned by the ExifSweep operator. We grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service for personal or commercial use within the bounds of your subscription tier.

The content you process belongs to you. We never claim any rights over your files or their extracted metadata. We never see them.

The Service is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the ExifSweep operator's total liability arising out of or related to these Terms is capped at the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) €100.

The above limitations do not apply to liability arising from gross negligence, willful misconduct, or violations of mandatory consumer-protection law.

Important caveat about metadata stripping: we make a best effort to remove all standard metadata fields. Some files may contain non-standard or proprietary fields we cannot detect. For absolute confidence, inspect the cleaned output with multiple tools (ExifTool, mat2). We are not liable for residual metadata in cleaned files.

You may stop using the Service at any time. Deletion of your account (including all associated data) is available in settings or via email to privacy@exifsweep.com.

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, especially the acceptable-use rules. Where reasonable, we'll notify you first and give you a chance to cure the violation.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Czech Republic, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.

If a dispute arises, we'll try to resolve it informally first. If that fails, exclusive jurisdiction lies with the courts of the Czech Republic. EU consumers retain the right to file a complaint in their country of residence.

Material changes will be announced 14 days in advance via email to active accounts and via a banner on the homepage. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance. If you don't agree, cancel before the date and we'll refund any unused portion of an annual subscription.
