Free online EXIF remover — no upload required

ExifSweep is a free, browser-based EXIF remover. No account, no upload, no ads. Three cleanups per day on the free tier; €3.49/month for thirty. Files never leave your device.

What "free" means here (and what other free tools cost you)

Most "free EXIF remover" websites are free in the sense that radio is free: they survive on something other than your money. Usually it is ads, sometimes affiliate redirects, occasionally a quiet upload of your photo to a third-party storage service whose privacy policy you never read.

ExifSweep is free in the simplest sense — you give us nothing. No account, no email, no payment. There are no display ads, no popups, no "premium feature" interstitials interrupting the cleanup. The free tier covers 3 cleanups per day with 1 file per batch, which fits ordinary social-media or marketplace sharing.

The catch (because there always is one): if you process dozens of photos a day or need server-side fallback for very large videos, you will hit the free-tier ceiling. That is when the paid tiers exist.

How ExifSweep is free without ads or your data

The entire metadata-stripping pipeline runs in your browser via WebAssembly. We never see your files. There is no server cost per cleanup because there is no server in the loop — your CPU does the work.

The paid tiers (Pro at €3.49/month, Plus at €4.79/month) subsidize the infrastructure that the free tier rides on: the static hosting, the abuse-prevention layer, the optional server-side fallback for large videos. About one in twenty visitors upgrades; that pays for the other nineteen.

We do not sell, share or analyze the files you process. We do not log file content. Audit events use hashed actor keys so even the abuse-prevention layer cannot tie a cleanup to a person.

When you would want the paid tier

Photographers and journalists processing batches of 30+ photos a day will run into the daily ceiling. Pro raises it to 30 cleanups/day, 3 files per batch, 50 MB image / 100 MB video, plus bulk .zip download and custom EXIF write (useful for adding copyright + capture date when you want to add metadata rather than remove it).

Plus adds unlimited cleanups, 10 files per batch, 250 MB images / 1 GB videos, server-side fallback for files that exceed browser memory, and HTTP API access at 50,000 requests/month for automation.

You can use the free tier today without giving us anything. Upgrade only if you outgrow it.

Frequently asked questions

Is it truly free?
Yes. The free tier — 3 cleanups per day (at most 1 of which may be a video), 1 file per batch, browser-only — requires no account, no email, no payment information. You can use it right now from this page.
Are there ads?
No. No banner ads, no popups, no affiliate redirects, no sponsored "premium feature" interstitials. The paid tiers fund the site.
What's the catch?
The free tier caps at 3 cleanups per day (max 1 video) and 1 file per batch. If you process dozens of photos daily, clean video regularly, or need larger batches, you will want Pro (€3.49/month, 30 cleanups/day) or Plus (€4.79/month, unlimited). Most casual users never hit the ceiling.
Do you sell my data?
No. We do not see your files — the stripping happens in your browser via WebAssembly. We do not log file content. Audit events use hashed actor keys so even our own abuse-prevention cannot tie a cleanup to a person. The privacy policy is at /privacy.
What's the file size limit?
Free tier: 5 MB images, 20 MB videos. Pro: 50 MB images, 100 MB videos. Plus: 250 MB images, 1 GB videos with server-side fallback for very large files.
How many photos can I process per day?
Free: 3 cleanups per day, of which at most 1 may be a video. Pro: 30 per day, no video sub-limit. Plus: unlimited. Quota resets at midnight UTC.
